The basic causes of poor public services

EGF has diagnosed two fundamental weaknesses in the UK’s system of government which has not been identified in the many reports on reform instigated by  governments and others since the 1960s. These weaknesses are:

  • Centralisation - the UK is about the most centralised democratic country in the world.

Two proposals to create effective and efficient government for the UK

  • EGF proposals are based on research into the governance systems of 10 peer countries (here) and input from EGF’s Advisory Board - here.

  • These reports are summarised in this Overview – here

  • These reports outline how effective government can be achieved in the UK:

    • The Effective Management of Government – here.
